Young Psychiatrists' Network Meetings: moving together towards new horizons

The original meeting was initiated by the Swedish Eastern Europe Committee (Assoc. Professor Jerker Hanson), in May 2009, facilitated by a grant from the Swedish International Development Agency. In 2010 50 YPs from 10 European countries met in Vilnius, benefiting from the hospitality of Lithuanian colleagues. The 2nd YPs’ Network Meeting was held in Riga in April 2011, attracting 90 participants from 18 countries. This was supported by the Latvian Psychiatric Association, Riga Centre of Psychiatry and Addiction disorders, and Riga Stradins University, both the Swedish Psychiatric Association and World Psychiatric Association (WPA) having major roles in planning the conference, with the WPA providing a grant, allowing attendants from non-Baltic countries.

Opening lectures by Professor Norman Sartorius and Professor Sir David Goldberg were followed by lectures, workshops and poster presentations, this yearґs scientific focus being on personality disorders and coercive care. Study visits at Riga Centre of Psychiatry and Addiction disorders gave opportunities to discuss different health care systems.
The meeting also gave the network tighten links with other well-established organisations: WPA Early Career Council (Estonia, Russia, Sweden), European Federation of Psychiatric Trainees and European Psychiatric Association (Early Career Psychiatrists Committee).

The meeting closed with the offer of Belorussian YPs to host the 3rd YPs’ Network Meeting in Minsk, in 2012. The organisers (YPs from many European countries) are working hard to orginise the 3rd meeting in Minsk, Belarus as good as it possible. We kindly invite you join us.
